Opposite Branches (Easily Painted)

I wouldn’t exactly describe myself as the artsy type.  I am not sure that I am the exact opposite per se, but an artist?!  Nah, not really.  That being said, I did manage to pull off this simple painting last summer while camping, thanks to a project I found out about on Pinterest. (I love that site!  If you’ve never been, you must check it out–ideas for everything imaginable.)  I have never painted anything in my life, aside from the stuff I did in grade school, if that in fact counts as painting.  So, when this actually came together enough such that we could put it up in our bedroom, I will reluctantly admit that I was pleasantly surprised with myself.  A not half-bad finished product.

The trickiest part of the painting for me was actually drawing (DEFINITELY not my forte) the tree trunk while trying to position the branches as Opposites, at the same time hoping to breathe a little life into them to give them a little character.  My favourite part is the top of the tree, which is off-centered, much like me:-).  Gluing each little button on as a leaf was quite time-consuming, but also fun in a way to figure out which placement, which button would be best for which spot.

I thought that I would post this easy project in response to this week’s photo-challenge because I wanted others, who also may not consider themselves artistic, to know that with the help of a few simple steps on Pinterest, you, too, can pull this off.  Maybe a fun, summer project to do outside even (just as I did using our camping stall’s picnic table)?  And, all supplies, including the canvasses, were purchased at a local dollar store; thereby, making it a very inexpensive, yet satisfying endeavour.
