My Pandemic Vices: Hula Daddy Coffee and the Moccamaster Cup-One

If you haven’t experienced coffee from Hula Daddy on the Big Island, I think you are missing out.  My husband and I visited their coffee farm a few years back and I was instantly hooked on their delicious 100% Kona coffees.  In fact, I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of one of their lesser caffeine varieties to try, but I love all of the flavours that I have had from them so far.  For the record, I am just a happy, return customer of theirs and I am in no way affiliated with the company or the owners, so this isn’t a sales pitch per se other than the fact that I think you ought to give it a try due to its superior quality and taste.  Their coffees are undoubtedly on the more expensive side, but if it’s one of your only indulgences like me, it is well worth it.  That being said, it is usually only a once or twice a week allowance for me, which keeps both my taste buds and my pocketbook happy.

Up until now, I have used my old (really old) drip brewer and/or our Keurig machine to make my morning cup of java.  However, the results have always been less than and I felt that now was as good of a time as any to invest in something that would actually do justice to my Hawaiian coffee addiction. After months and months of careful research, I finally purchased a Moccamaster Cup-One machine. I suppose you could call it my pandemic splurge.  Other coffee connoisseur ratings and reviews continually placed the Moccamaster at the top of the brewer list and after a couple of weeks of use, I can see why.  I absolutely love it and for the first time ever, I have actually consumed full cups of my favourite java bean sans sweetener of any kind.  Now, if you would have told me a month ago that I would be drinking my coffee black so to speak, I’d have told you to get out of town.  Yet, here I am and it’s all thanks to the blooming feature and exact brew temperature of my new Technivorm purchase. The Dutch company behind the Moccamaster clearly has the right technology on how to achieve the most flavourful cup of beans.  Again, not trying to plug any one particular company here, but when something is good, it’s worth sharing :-).

Now, if I could only let you smell the amazing results as the bubbling hot water bathes my all-time favourite mocca beans to sweet perfection… YUM!
