Years back, I asked my mom to put together a book with all of my favourite recipes from childhood. It is filled with dishes both savoury and sweet as well as everything in between.
More than the recipes themselves are the warm memories of all of the wonderful smells and treasures one would find in the kitchen upon coming home from school.
Looking back, I’m not sure how my mom managed to do it all, but she did. Knowing that some of the recipes were passed down from my Baba make the coiled book all the more special.
Beyond the super cute and thoughtful cover, the recipes inside are all carefully typewritten and organized in alphabetical order for ease of use. You can tell by the clip and papers hanging out that it has been well-used.
Of course, this post would not be complete without highlighting my two all-time favourite Ukrainian recipes which, believe it or not, I have actually made. I am pleased to report that both dishes have turned out rather successfully thanks to the love and care that went into them in the first place.
I am forever grateful that I will always have a piece of my heritage and childhood to carry forward thanks to my Mom and my Baba.
